How can Galter Library help me?

  • sea green puzzle piece with the theme of Medical Librarians MonthVisit the Library: Galter Library strives to be a safe and welcoming space within the Northwestern community, offering various spaces dedicated to quiet study, collaboration, and research discovery. We have 11 small conference rooms that can be reserved through this form, and a wellness room on the first floor dedicated to mental and emotional wellness. On the second floor, you can find our computer classroom equipped with a variety of software and our walking treadmills and study bikes where you can keep up with your steps while you work. 
  • Access to E-Resources: In addition to our physical collection the library offers access to valuable literature databases and resources. Search library databases, read journal articles online, and view electronic textbooks: A-Z Databases; Ebook Collections.
  • Research Support: We have several research support services that range from quick informational answers to in-depth literature searches, systematic reviews, and specialized support. If you are about to embark on a research project, funding proposal, or systematic review, request a consultation so that we can best meet your information needs. Be sure to check out our online GalterGuides which serve as a one-stop portal for library instructional content and expert-recommended subject resources.
  • Workshops and Trainings: Library Workshops and Trainings are offered monthly and by request. We offer monthly EndNote and PubMed classes, as well as Conducting a Systematic Review, Conducting a Scoping Review, Choosing a Journal, and 10 Simple Rules for Data Cleaning with Excel. Check the library website for the current schedule of classes.

  • Galter DataLab: The Galter Library DataLab promotes reproducibility and open science best practices. DataClinic provides consultation and training for all stages of the research data life cycle.
  • Metrics & Impact Core: Galter Library offers expertise in bibliometrics, data visualization, and altmetrics, through the Metrics and Impact Core. We can provide custom reports and departmental publication summaries and visualizations.
  • NIH Policy Compliance: Galter provides grant and NIH Biosketch support including NIH Public Access Policy Compliance, Depositing Manuscripts into NIHMS, Navigating My NCBI, and Creating NIH Biosketches with SciENcv.
  • Prism: The institutional repository for the research and scholarly output of Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine (FSM). Prism preserves intellectual works created by the Feinberg scholarly community, enhances the visibility of Feinberg scholarship, and promotes authors by enabling discovery and accessibility of works by the international scientific community.

  • Drop in during open Library Hours to the Galter Health Sciences Library service desk located at 320 E. Superior St.
  • Call us at 312-305-8126 during our hours of operation.
  • Chat with us Monday – Friday from 10:00am - 4:00pm. Questions submitted after hours will be answered the following business day.
